Tips for treating periocular eczema

Although eczema can develop in the area around the eyes, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s a skin condition. Eczema on the eyelids and under-eye circles is a skin condition, not an eye condition, and should be treated as such. In some cases, when eczema is found in an area very close to the eyes, an allergist may seek the help of an ophthalmologist.

To prevent the onset of eyelid dermatitis, it’s recommended to follow some tips:

· Clean your eyes once or twice a day with hypoallergenic products that respect the skin’s pH.
· Avoid scratching the eyelid area. It’s better to wash it gently and use soothing moisturizers specifically designed for this area.
· Wash your hands regularly, especially after coming into contact with substances that can cause allergies.
· Avoid sudden and extreme changes in temperature.
Keep the skin on your eyelids moisturized.
Wash clothes with mild soap, avoiding fabric softeners.
Use makeup and cosmetics recommended for sensitive skin.

If symptoms of dermatitis appear on your eyelids, it is advisable to consult a doctor, who will diagnose the problem correctly and prescribe the appropriate treatment to eliminate the dermatitis in this delicate area.
