Atopic dermatitis is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by redness and dryness of the skin, causing severe itching and scratching. Atopic dermatitis is not an isolated phenomenon. Sometimes it can lead to other diseases such as respiratory and/or food allergies. This is called the atopic march. Studies show that a child with well-controlled atopy is less likely to develop these types of complications.
